Hear back after a Mercor interview: why there is no fixed timeline, what each status means and what support can tell you.
Most candidates expect to hear back after a Mercor interview within a few days, because that is how an ordinary hiring process works, and then the dashboard stays quiet. The silence is confusing because the interview is finished, and nothing on the screen says who is looking at it, when a decision is due or whether a decision is being made at all.
We wrote this for people who have finished a Mercor AI interview, or submitted an application, and are trying to work out what the wait means. It covers what Mercor says about timing, why it gives no fixed timeline, what each status on the dashboard means, what support can and cannot tell you, and how to use the waiting time well. We make Verve AI, an interview copilot with mock interviews and a Mercor mode, and what we say about Mercor comes from its own documentation as it stood in October 2026.
How long does it take to hear back after a Mercor interview?
Mercor does not publish a number of days for any stage of an application. Its AI interview help page answers the question in a single line, which says that you are notified when your application moves to the next stage and that you are welcome to keep applying to other open roles in the meantime.
The one place where a timeframe does appear is the confirmation screen that follows a submitted application, which Mercor's application guide says displays the submission together with an anticipated timeline. That detail tells you where the timeline really lives, because it belongs to the individual listing and the company behind it, and not to Mercor as a whole.
Why does Mercor give no fixed timeline?
The first reason is that finishing the interview is not the same thing as applying. Mercor's application steps can be completed in any order and are shared across applications, and nothing is reviewed until you press Submit. A candidate who finished the interview and never submitted is not waiting for anyone, because the application is still sitting in the dashboard as ready to submit.
The second reason is that the decision is not Mercor's alone to schedule. A listing is posted by a client, the application is reviewed by that project's hiring team, and Mercor states that a submitted application remains under review until the hiring team completes its process. Listings can also close at any time, and the requirements of a listing can change after you have submitted.
The third reason is that the interview keeps working for you after the application it was taken for. A completed interview stays valid indefinitely and feeds Mercor's matching system, so the first message you receive may concern a role you never applied to. Our guide to how the Mercor AI interview works explains how one interview is reused in this way.
What does each application status mean?
Most of the uncertainty disappears once you can read the labels that Mercor documents for the Applications and Assessments tabs of your dashboard.
- Ready to submit means every step is complete and the application has not been sent, so no hiring team has seen it yet.
- Submitted, which appears as a green tag, means the application is with the project's hiring team and can no longer be edited or withdrawn.
- A step that shows as Incomplete again means the listing's requirements were updated after you submitted, and you need to finish the new step to stay under consideration.
- Applications closed, or Not accepting applications, means the listing has closed for everyone, although an application submitted before the closing date remains under consideration.
- Interview too short means the attempt ended much earlier than its planned length and does not count, so the interview has to be retaken.
- On the Assessments tab every assessment is marked Not taken, In progress or Completed, and an interview that misses the minimum completion criteria is not marked Completed.
Because completed steps carry over, you may find applications marked ready to submit that you never started. A submitted application also updates itself with your most recent resume and interview, although Mercor warns that a hiring manager may already have started reviewing the earlier version.
How do you find out that you were not selected?
Mercor says you are notified by email once a final decision has been made on an application. What you will not receive is an explanation, because its application guide states that it cannot share specific feedback on an application or interview rejection, and it gives the volume of applications as the reason.
A submitted application cannot be withdrawn or deleted by the candidate. Mercor says that applications you are no longer interested in can be ignored and that they drop off the dashboard over time, typically within a few weeks. A long silence on one listing is therefore not a verdict on your interview, which stays on your profile for every later application that needs it.
What can you ask Mercor support, and what can it not tell you?
Support is handled by email, and a message to the support address is answered first by Melvin, the AI support assistant that Mercor describes in its help center. Melvin can look up where an application stands and what its next step is, and Mercor says that most replies arrive within a few hours. Requests that need a person are passed to the human support team, which typically follows up in the same thread within one to two business days.
A useful request names the listing, gives the email address you log in with and describes the problem clearly, and Mercor asks for a single ticket for each issue. There are also firm limits on what support will provide.
- Support does not provide assessment scores, detailed results or individual feedback on an interview.
- Support cannot share the recording or the transcript of your interview, which Mercor keeps for evaluation only.
- Support cannot arrange an interview with a person, because the AI interview is the only screening method Mercor uses.
- Support cannot reopen a listing that has stopped accepting applications, even if you had already started on it.
What should you do while you wait?
Mercor's own advice is to keep applying, and its documentation is clear that applications do not interfere with one another. Since each interview is reused, a further application often needs little more than a click on Submit.
The Assessments tab is the second thing to open. Once your resume is uploaded, Mercor shows up to two recommended assessments at a time, chosen from your profile and from the active opportunities that need them. Passing one means you are considered automatically for new roles that use it, even without a traditional application, and our article on the Mercor skills assessment and work trial covers how those assessments are run.
The third thing is your profile, because Mercor's matching system can send what it calls an instant offer to candidates whose interviews, assessments, skills and availability fit a listing. Mercor recommends keeping your resume, location, work authorization and weekly availability current, and switching on notifications, since every offer carries an expiry deadline.
It is also worth using the time on the next interview. Different roles can require a different interview, and each interview can be retaken only a limited number of times, so the waiting period is a good moment to follow a plan such as the one in our guide on how to prepare for the Mercor AI interview.
How long do the later stages take once you hear back?
The stages after the interview are better documented than the wait itself. A paid work trial is reviewed by the project lead, and Mercor says payment is typically processed within 14 business days of that review. After an offer, most identity verifications finish within moments and a few need up to one business day of review, while a background check through Certn is usually completed within five to seven business days. We set out the whole sequence in what happens after the Mercor AI interview.
How can Verve AI help while you wait?
The most productive use of a quiet dashboard is rehearsal for the interview or assessment that comes next. Verve AI's mock interviews put you in a spoken interview with an AI interviewer, built from a question bank, your own questions or a job description, and give you a report afterwards. That is close to Mercor's format, and it uses none of your Mercor attempts.
For a live session, Verve AI's Mercor interview mode recognizes the type of question, structures an answer from your resume and keeps later answers consistent with earlier ones. It holds the context of the whole conversation across the live audio, the built-in chatbot and screen captures, and its suggestions are prompts for answers given in your own words. You can start on Verve AI's free plan, which includes five mock interviews and three live sessions without a card.
FAQ
How long does Mercor take to respond after the AI interview?
Mercor gives no fixed number of days for a response after the AI interview. Its help center says only that you are notified when your application moves to the next stage, and the confirmation screen for a submitted application shows the anticipated timeline for that listing.
Does Mercor tell you if you failed the interview?
Mercor notifies you by email once a final decision has been made on a submitted application. It does not share interview scores or specific feedback on a rejection, and its support team does not provide them on request either.
Can you contact Mercor support about your application status?
You can email Mercor support about an application's status, and the message is answered first by an AI assistant called Melvin that can look up where the application stands. Mercor says most replies arrive within a few hours, and a request passed to a person is typically answered within one to two business days.
Why have I not heard back after a Mercor interview?
The most common documented reason you do not hear back after a Mercor interview is that the application was never submitted, because nothing is reviewed until you press Submit. Beyond that, a submitted application stays under review until the project's hiring team completes its process, and Mercor sets no deadline for that review.
Can you apply to other Mercor roles while you wait?
You can apply to as many other Mercor roles as you like while one application is under review, and Mercor encourages it. Completed steps such as the interview carry over to new applications, and separate applications do not interfere with each other.
