What a micro1 Assessment Tests, From Coding to Test Tasks

A micro1 assessment mostly runs inside the Zara interview, with test tasks later. What each part tests, how it's proctored and what micro1 leaves out.

For most applicants, a micro1 assessment is not a separate test that you book. micro1's candidate terms group "screenings, assessments, or interviews" under one set of rules, and nearly everything it scores happens inside the Zara interview: skill questions for every role, a coding challenge for technical roles and a human data exercise for annotator roles. A second kind of assessment can follow once you are certified and chosen for a project, when some pipelines set quizzes or test tasks before paid work begins. micro1 does not publish pass marks, a time limit for the coding challenge or a retake rule for any of these.

This page takes each part in turn, from micro1's candidate pages, expert library, terms and API documentation as we read them on 28 October 2026. The conversation itself, including how Zara follows up and what proctoring asks of your camera and screen, is covered in our explainer on how the micro1 Zara AI interview runs and what it monitors.

What counts as a micro1 assessment

micro1 uses the word in three places, and reading them together explains why a search for a "micro1 test" keeps returning interview advice. Its candidate terms define "Interviews" to include screenings and assessments, so the confidentiality and integrity rules that govern the conversation apply just as much to a coding task or a written answer. Its expert FAQ says micro1 uses "structured, skill-based assessments" to evaluate expertise and that certification decisions rest on demonstrated knowledge, and its candidate privacy notice lists "Screen sharing recordings for technical assessments" among the interview data it collects.

The sequence starts before Zara does. The AI Agent Tester listing posted on 24 October 2026 sets out the steps as screening questions, an interview of 15 to 30 minutes at most, and a profile review before you are presented to the client. Its screening questions, like those on a Mathematics Expert listing posted two days earlier, were mostly practical, and both listings asked for your expected hourly rate. The AI Agent Tester listing also asked how many hours a week you could work and whether you had access to specific tools, while the mathematics listing asked about your experience with Python and the tools you know. micro1 does not say how it uses these answers, so our advice is simply to give a rate you would accept and to name only tools you could discuss in depth.

The scored parts of a micro1 assessment

Skill and scenario questions

Every applicant meets these, because micro1 says Zara tailors its questions to the skills each role requires. micro1 says its scenario questions assess judgment, problem-solving and communication. On the employer side, the report its API returns rates each technical skill as Not experienced, Junior, Mid-level or Senior, explains each rating in writing and adds a separate soft-skills rating, though micro1 does not say what candidates themselves see. Preparing for them is mostly about holding up under follow-up questions, which our micro1 interview prep plan works through with an example answer.

The coding challenge

micro1's interview guide promises a coding challenge for technical roles and says nothing more, so the fullest public description is the documentation for employers who build interviews on the same platform. There, the coding round can be required or optional, and one setting turns the whole interview into a coding-only round. The employer either fixes the language or lets you choose from thirteen: JavaScript, C++, C, C#, Go, Java, Kotlin, PHP, Python, Ruby, Rust, Swift and TypeScript. Employers can add notes to tailor the exercise, and micro1's own example asks it to "Make the DSA problem extremely difficult" with a problem that "will require recursion to solve efficiently", which suggests a data-structures-and-algorithms problem is a common shape, although micro1 does not say what the default is.

The same field warns that "The candidate won't be able to use outside libraries", and the result returns as written feedback with a rating on the same four levels as the skill questions. micro1 does not say whether its own expert interviews use the same settings as employer-built ones, so treat these as the platform's options rather than a description of your session.

The human data exercise

For annotator roles, micro1's guide lists a human data exercise but publishes no sample, format or time limit for it. The nearest clue is its practice interview for data annotators, which names the target skills as instruction following, attention to detail and logical reasoning. Its expert library also calls pipeline instructions "your source of truth" and tells experts that "every word matters" when following guidelines. Our reading is that an annotation exercise will reward applying a written rule exactly and consistently rather than creatively.

Custom questions from the employer

Employers can add up to 20 custom questions, each with a limit of one to four minutes and each marked as an audio or a text question, which suggests that some are answered in writing. Every answer receives its own rating, from "Not an impressive answer" up to "Great answer", and our Zara explainer notes that these questions allow a single attempt.

Qualification tasks after certification

The assessment many experts meet second is set by the project, not by Zara. micro1's pipeline guide says that before work starts you review the instructions, watch any training videos, complete sample tasks if required and pass any qualification requirements "like quizzes or test tasks". Some pipelines let you jump straight into tasks, while others add a further vetting step. The assessment does not end once you start working, because micro1 tracks experts on task quality scores, time per task and guideline adherence.

How micro1 proctors and polices assessments

micro1's employer API switches proctoring on by default, and each report carries a numeric proctoring score with a list of violations. It names three violation types, tab_switch, eye_movement and ai_classifier, with a sample entry that reads "3 tab switches detected, indicating multitasking or external searches". The API does not define ai_classifier, but the name suggests a check on the answers as well as on your behaviour.

The candidate terms reach every part of the assessment. You must keep questions, answers and materials confidential and may not copy or screenshot the interview environment unless your instructions allow it. You also agree to "promptly inform micro1 if you have previously encountered any interview content being presented to you", which turns a hunt for leaked questions into something you would be expected to disclose. A breach can cost you temporary or permanent access to the platform, and micro1 may report it to prospective employers.

Where the results go

micro1's employer reports also carry a single AI match score, which a September 2025 micro1 study describes as combining résumé analysis, structured interviews, live problem sets and soft-skills evaluation. The practical point is that your résumé is part of the assessment, so every skill you claim on it should be one the interview can confirm.

micro1's privacy notice says the automated overall assessment "will be reviewed by a human evaluator before a final decision is made", and it names privacy@micro1.ai as the address for appealing a decision based on automated technologies. Passing certifies the skills you were assessed on, and micro1 reuses skills certified after July 2025 so that a later application can skip them. What each dashboard status means is set out in our guide to micro1 interview results, and no micro1 page we opened sets a retake limit or waiting period for any part of the assessment.

How this differs from Mercor's assessments

Mercor runs a separate Assessments tab with written forms, timed tasks and a paid work trial, with retake and AI rules set out in its own documentation, as our guide to the Mercor skills assessment describes. micro1 publishes no separate assessments tab or catalogue of timed tasks for expert applicants, so getting ready for micro1 means getting ready for one Zara session with several scored parts, which may be proctored, followed by whatever qualification task your pipeline sets.

Preparing for each part

  • For the coding challenge, settle on a language from micro1's list if the choice is yours, and practise algorithm problems, including recursive ones, using only the standard library.
  • For a human data exercise, practise reading a long guideline and applying it to edge cases the same way every time.
  • For custom questions marked as text, write complete answers against a two- or three-minute timer, since each one allows only a single attempt.
  • For pipeline quizzes and test tasks, read the instructions in full first and follow micro1's own advice: "Don't complete 50 tasks wrong - ask after the first one if unsure".
  • For the format as a whole, take one of micro1's free 18-minute practice interviews for your role.

Practising the spoken parts with Verve AI

micro1's candidate terms state: "All answers or responses that you provide during the Interview will be your original work product, and you will answer all interview questions without any third-party assistance, except where explicitly permitted by your interviewer or the interview instructions." Because the same terms count assessments as Interviews, that rule covers the coding challenge and any exercise as well as the conversation, so outside tools belong in your preparation and nowhere else.

The skill questions are the one part every micro1 applicant faces, and they are where Verve AI's AI Mock Interview helps most. You answer an AI recruiter one question at a time, drawn either from the Software Engineering question bank, which covers algorithms, system design patterns and DevOps standards, or from questions you have saved to your own Question Bank and selected through Custom Questions. When the session finishes, you get a detailed performance report with personalized feedback and scoring based on your responses, which you can use to decide what to rehearse next.

FAQ

Is there a separate micro1 coding test?

For expert applicants in technical roles, the coding challenge is part of the Zara interview rather than a separate test. Employers using micro1's platform can also create a coding-only interview, so an invitation from another company may look different. micro1 does not publish a time limit or a pass mark for the coding challenge on its candidate pages.

Can I retake a micro1 assessment or skip part of it?

No micro1 page we read sets a retake limit or a waiting period for any part of the assessment. What micro1 does say is that skills certified in an interview completed after July 2025 that met its criteria are reused, so a later application may assess only the skills you have not yet certified. Until micro1 says otherwise, treat each attempt as one that counts.

Are there more tests after I pass?

Often there are. micro1's pipeline guide says some pipelines require sample tasks, quizzes, test tasks or another vetting step before real work begins, while others let you start immediately. Once you are working, your tasks are reviewed and you are tracked on quality scores, time per task and guideline adherence.
