Verve AI vs Interview Coder for coding interviews: stealth, follow-up questions about your solution, free trial, refunds and price compared.
Verve AI vs Interview Coder is the comparison engineers tend to make once a technical interview is on the calendar, because both tools read a coding problem from the screen and return a solution within seconds. The questions that matter after that are the ones an interviewer creates: whether the tool stays out of the shared screen, whether it can follow the discussion about the solution, and what you can find out about it before paying.
We wrote this for candidates with coding rounds ahead who are choosing between the two. It explains what each product is built for, what is publicly known about how Interview Coder performs, and how each one handles the common concerns about interview copilots, with price near the end. We make Verve AI, so weigh our view accordingly; what we say about Interview Coder comes from its own website, help center and policies and from published reporting as they stood in October 2026.
What is each product built for?
Interview Coder is a desktop app for Mac and Windows that describes itself as real-time help with coding questions in technical interviews. You capture a problem with a keyboard shortcut and it returns commented code with its reasoning and complexity. A rewrite released as version 2.0 added transcription of the interviewer's audio, and its site now lists pages for behavioral and system design interviews as well. One of its pages says it is built for the live round and not for practice.
Verve AI is an interview copilot for the whole interview process, with a desktop app for Mac and Windows, a browser version and an iPhone app. It covers behavioral and technical conversations from the audio, includes a Coding Copilot that reads problems from the screen, and has mock interviews for rehearsal.
In practice, that means Interview Coder began with the coding problem and added the conversation, while Verve AI began with the conversation and includes the coding problem.
What do people say about Interview Coder?
Interview Coder is better known from news coverage than from customer reviews. It was created by the founders of Cluely, and TechCrunch reported on the attention it drew when one of them used it in an internship interview at a large technology company.
Independent reviews are scarce, since it has no Trustpilot profile and the positive comments available are the testimonials on its own home page, most of which are anonymous. The criticism that appears in forum discussions is about the price, the absence of refunds and candidates who say they were noticed, and those accounts cannot be verified. The sections below therefore rely on what Interview Coder publishes itself.
Will the interviewer see it when you share your screen?
Both products are native desktop apps that keep their windows out of screen sharing and recording, and both use global shortcuts so that your browser does not lose focus.
Interview Coder makes this its main claim, and its help pages list the conditions. Zoom needs a specific capture setting turned on, the overlay can be visible in Google Meet on Windows 10, and one of its own pages states that no tool is invisible everywhere and that an assessment taken in a company's dedicated desktop app would detect a helper of this kind.
The Verve AI desktop app runs outside the screen-share layer at the operating-system level, so the interviewer does not see it. Our documentation states where that is guaranteed, which is window and tab sharing on any platform and full-screen sharing in the Zoom and Microsoft Teams desktop apps, and the app shows a "Stealth Mode: Active" indicator before you join. Stealth Mode is included on the free plan, and our guide to testing interview copilot stealth mode shows how to confirm it on your own computer before any interview.

Will it catch the question and answer in time?
A coding interview has two kinds of question, the problem on the screen and everything the interviewer says about it, and a copilot needs to handle both.
Interview Coder handles the problem on the screen with a shortcut that you press, and it says solutions usually arrive within three to five seconds. It transcribes the interviewer's audio as well, and its site does not say whether spoken questions are answered automatically or on request.
Verve AI gives you three ways to get help in one session. The copilot answers spoken questions automatically from the audio in real time, a hotkey captures the part of your screen that holds the problem, and a built-in chatbot takes typed questions. For the audio you can choose Auto, Manual or Smart Listening, which waits for the interviewer to finish before answering, and the transcription was upgraded this year for technical terms and accents.

Will it keep up with follow-up questions?
Few coding interviews end when the code runs. The interviewer asks why you chose that data structure, what the time complexity is, how the solution behaves on a much larger input, and what you would change, and those answers are often weighed more heavily than the code.
This is where Verve AI is strongest, because the audio, the screen capture and the chatbot share one context for the whole conversation, so after you capture a problem and receive a solution, the interviewer's spoken follow-ups are answered about that same code, with no second capture and nothing to explain. The Coding Copilot can also debug code you have already written when you give it an error or a failing test, and a later question about an earlier problem picks up where that problem left off.

Interview Coder says its audio feature provides guidance on follow-up questions, and its solutions include complexity analysis from the start. Its site does not describe whether it remembers earlier questions in a session or accepts typed questions.
Will the answers sound like you?
In the behavioral and system design parts of a technical loop, an answer has to come from your own experience to be convincing.
Interview Coder's behavioral page describes suggestions in STAR format and mentions uploading a bank of your stories. Its site does not describe using your resume or the job description, and it does not offer practice interviews.
Verve AI builds answers from your resume, the job description, documents you upload and your own stories in STAR format. Pro adds knowledge banks for 20 interview domains, including software engineering, system design and data science, and a secondary copilot that stays on one architecture for a whole system design round. Mock interviews with reports are included for rehearsal, five of them on the free plan.
Will it hold up for the whole interview?
Interview Coder's help center notes several limits, including reduced audio support on Intel Macs and the Windows 10 behavior described above, and it has troubleshooting pages for a solution that does not load and for running out of credits. Its pricing card lists 1,000 usage credits a month, while other pages describe usage as unlimited, and the site does not say what a credit buys.
Verve AI Pro has unlimited sessions with no credits to track. Transcription reconnects by itself after a brief network drop and tells you when it has, and an answer you are reading stays in place when a new one arrives.
What if something goes wrong?
Interview Coder's refund policy says that all sales are final. Its free download lets you check that the app runs on your computer, but the AI features need a subscription, so the first time you see an answer is after you have paid, and support is by email.
Verve AI's free plan includes three live copilot sessions with Stealth Mode, so you can hear it answer real questions and test screen sharing before paying. Paid plans include email support and an in-app chat that goes directly to our support team, and our refund policy covers a technical problem on our side that stopped you using the product, or a subscription that was never used.
How do the prices compare?
Prices are from Interview Coder's website and our pricing page.
Interview Coder has two paid options, a monthly plan at $299 and a one-time lifetime purchase at $799. Verve AI Pro, which includes the Coding Copilot, the online assessment copilot, unlimited sessions and our reasoning models, is $84.99 a month, $59.99 a month billed quarterly, or $34.99 a month billed annually.
A year of Verve AI Pro on annual billing is $419.88, which is a little more than one month of Interview Coder and about half the price of its lifetime plan.
Verve AI vs Interview Coder: which one should you choose?
The Verve AI vs Interview Coder choice depends on how much of the interview you want covered. Interview Coder is a focused tool for the coding problem itself, and its lifetime plan may appeal to someone who expects to use it across several job searches and is comfortable buying without a trial.
Verve AI covers the coding problem and the conversation around it. It follows the interviewer's follow-up questions about your solution, handles the behavioral and system design rounds in the same loop from your own background, lets you try live sessions and Stealth Mode for free, and costs less each month.
Is Interview Coder legit? looks at the company and its policies, and our coding interview copilot page shows Verve AI's technical features. You can start on Verve AI's free plan without entering a card.
What coding platforms themselves monitor is a separate question, which we cover in Can HackerRank, CodeSignal or CoderPad detect AI?.
